A Rabbit Is A Rabbit, Is A Rabbit, Is A Rabbit...

Rabbits are all capable of love, affection, self-protection, mischief, etc.  This is part of their intrinsic design, and not part of their conditioning.  As prey animals, rabbits make you earn their trust, which makes a bunny's love even more rewarding.  We have been fortunate at BunnyLuv Rabbit Resource Center to know thousands of rabbits over the last nine years.  Some of these special creatures were rescued from labs where they were exploited for anitibodies.  Some were rescued from municipal shelters, originally purchased from breeders and pet stores, then later discarded like old toys.  Some were rescued from restaurants or feeder bins where inhumane deaths were only to be hoped for and care in the meantime was non-existent.  Some came from parking lots and others from previously feral lives after being abandoned in fields, golf courses or community parks; hawks, dogs, cars, and flying golf balls were only part of their worries.  Some of these buns had simply been forgotten in backyard hutches withstanding long periods without food or water.  And yet, none of these buns’ future capacity or desire to mix and mingle with other rabbits or humans were determined by where they came from, nor were they determined by the breed, gender, or age of the rabbit.  In every case, they were shaped and molded by their very own personality tendencies and with love, security, and lots of patience always showed and continue to show an incredible ability to adapt to change, especially when it is good change.  We are grateful to be able to facilitate and participate in the process that occurs when rabbits learn their life has become safe enough to let their individual personalities shine.

Visit your local shelter or rescue group when looking to adopt!  These rabbits need you and will appreciate your choice to adopt, not buy.  Watching a rabbit gradually explore outside of the steel laboratory cage he has lived in his whole life, or jump into a huge litterbox of hay for the first time after a history of wire floors, will only be the beginning of years of silliness and companionship.
